General questions
How did you come to our company and what made you decide to start here?
My student advisor recommended Wagemut . As soon as the application was out, I got a response from Patrick and before I knew it, I was sitting in the office for an interview. I don't think I've ever sat in an interview for so long, but it just clicked and we instantly hit it off. You could almost say it was planned that way by the universe :D.
What is your current role and what are your main responsibilities?
I am employed as a media designer. Right now my main task is social media management. That starts with content planning and goes over creating, posting, reporting to community management... well, expanding what we have so far :D.
What projects or tasks have you enjoyed the most so far?
Phew, very difficult to answer. In general, I particularly enjoyed the tasks where I gained new experience, such as customer contact, being given responsibility for an area like social media, but also being allowed to integrate myself into the redesign. I could go on forever and list more tasks that I enjoyed.
How would you describe the corporate culture in three words?
Open, Unique, Eye Level.
Work and career
What's special about your job?
That I feel really and completely taken seriously, which unfortunately is not a matter of course. I really think what is special is the trust that is shown here and how openly mistakes are dealt with when something goes wrong. You don't know what? Just ask!
Is there a particular challenge or project that you are especially proud of?
My personal challenge was definitely the fear of communication. On the one hand, to say what I really think and, on the other hand, to speak at all. I was really scared of the idea of talking to customers, but Taki took me by the hand and encouraged me. Thank you Taki :D. But I also found it hard to speak openly in the team at first, saying when I had a different opinion cost me an endless amount of effort, and now? A cinch.
How does the company support your professional development?
Through help, a sympathetic ear and good encouragement, and above all the patience that everyone here brings to the table. I don't have to do anything I don't feel ready for or get help from one of the guys. I've grown tremendously as a designer the last few months since I've been here and I'm already looking forward to each additional learning.
What is the best advice you would give to someone who wants to work in your field?
Apply at Wagemut! The working atmosphere and the support are really mega to learn what you are interested in.
Team and collaboration
What does collaboration look like in your team?
It's going great. Interpersonally, I get along so well with everyone that I have no problem coming out of my shell. The doors and ears are always open for a question. There is no shop talk between each other and instead there are passionate conversations and results. Anyone who brainstorms with so much passion is naturally also fully involved emotionally, and you can hear that here and there :D
What do you appreciate most about your colleagues?
They are just Tooooooll! I can't help but rave about this team, I really love coming to the office. The daredevils are up for fun, a conversation about anime, the universe, or dancing and singing along to 90s/00s music together. I have to say, it really feels like a little family (I know typical Argentur kitsch, but I can't put it any other way). The guys always meet me at eye level and are not too shy to learn about me "as a student" and give value to my opinion. What I want to say is that I really appreciate everyone individually here in the team.
How does your team celebrate successes or milestones?
With a stable high five :D and of course it is always mentioned in meetings. You really don't get too little praise here.
Corporate vision and values
Which company value do you identify with the most and why?
Curiosity. The attitude of never knowing enough and, above all, never having finished learning.
How do you see the future of the company?
As well as Taki only differently expressed :D
I hope that more companies see what kind of blatant sh*** Wagemut always knocks out anew and especially how much here the butt is busting to always create the best possible result. Wagemut I see in the future to play with the big ones and hopefully me in the team.
How does your work contribute to the overall vision of the company?
I bring a breath of fresh air to the studio. As the youngest and so far only female person in the office, I bring different perspectives here and there. I'm not quite up to speed yet, but that's coming and then I'll be able to pass on creative masterpieces like Adam and Patrick's to Dev without any help.
Personal insights
Is there a book, movie or quote that has influenced your work style or philosophy?
Disney movies and the countless fairy tales have made me the dreamer I am today. As a result, I have developed my Toxic Trait "I could do it too, I just have to try", sometimes perhaps megalomaniac, but so far this philosophy has carried me well through life. If you call out to the universe, it will come back.
What do you do to unwind and recharge from work?
Do crime podcasts, love story audiobooks or snuggle up with my boyfriend on the sofa with a good anime. If all that doesn't help, I stand in the kitchen and bake. My colleagues often get something out of it... a delicious cake ... or cookies ... or muffins geffälig?
What's something surprising that most people don't know about you?
Hmm, difficult to answer if you are an oversharer :D. I am very afraid of large birds. Anything goose or larger gets my pulse racing and ostrich size or larger brings tears to my eyes from fear. Chickens do it already too.
Tips and advice
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry?
Don't let a person with too much opinion for too little idea spoil your fun on the job! As long as you don't use Comic Sans in your design, it can't be that bad. Instead, ask yourself why the person doesn't like it to differentiate subjective opinion from reality.
How do you stay current and informed in your field?
Social media like TikTok or Instagram. There I follow many creators who report every now and then what's going on. Alternatively, I like to browse through the page or listen to the conversations in the office or Patrick, who constantly brings news!
What tool or app has changed or improved your workday the most?
AI in general, like ChatGpt or LeonardoAi. It's crazy how they can help you find the right words or reflect your thoughts in a picture in a way you couldn't have photographed, photoshopped or illustrated so quickly. It just makes everyday life so much easier and gives your imagination even more room for ideas.
Final thoughts
What do you want for the future of the company?
That my prospects for the future will come true and the success of Wagemut will go far beyond. Pentagram can pack up ;).
Is there anyone in the company you particularly admire for their work or influence?
That's a nasty question. I don't want anyone to feel bad! The comparison is actually also mega hard because everyone here gives me different things to do. Interpersonal, dealing with customers, in the field of DEV or in the various design disciplines & programs, explanations of terms and with tips for further life I am sprinkled here daily.
What message would you like to give to the readers of the blog?
Never stop asking questions, taking classes, or taking on new challenges. The feeling of growing from it is incredible! Stay true to yourself and live life to the fullest.
