General questions
How did you come to our company and what made you decide to start here?
During my studies, I was self-employed as a freelancer. During my acquisition, I stumbled across Wagemut 's website, which was very unique at the time. We got talking and started our first joint projects. During this collaboration, I liked the very unusual but refreshing approach of Patrick and Sebbo (still two of us at the time).
In contrast to most of the agencies I worked for at the time, they broke away from the usual clichés of the media and design landscape with their perspective. It wasn't so much about romanticized design talk, but about "buck" and passion to create something really cool with real added value! The whole thing was also packaged in such honest and open communication that I was really surprised and excited. So after completing my bachelor's degree, I made an enquiry and, hey presto, I was employed as a communication designer at Wagemut .
What is your current role and what are your main responsibilities?
As a communication designer, I am responsible for the conceptual and technical development and implementation of projects for our clients. This also includes advice and information on technical communication aspects. As every customer is unique, all projects require intensive research and communication in order to develop a concept in line with the customer's wishes. This concept should ensure a defined added value for the customer. This added value can lie in small but effective improvements to the existing concept or involve opening up completely new avenues.
What projects or tasks have you enjoyed the most so far?
Phew, I would probably answer this question differently every week! In fact, I think my current project is the best. It's a website for camp trips for children and young people. Our client gives me a lot of creative freedom, which allows us to use completely new approaches. I'm particularly pleased with the very positive feedback, which keeps my motivation growing.
How would you describe the corporate culture in three words?
cheeky, honest, valuable
Work and career
What's special about your job?
The unique opportunity to immerse myself in completely different economies every day, to get to know them and to help people in these worlds, makes my work particularly exciting. There are certainly repetitive processes, but the starting points are always fundamentally different. Two brands from the same sector can have completely contrasting concepts. This is because behind every company there are different people with unique characters and desires. I enjoy the diversity.
Is there a particular challenge or project that you are especially proud of?
First and foremost, I am very proud of our company. Wagemut itself is also a project that is constantly evolving, and I enjoy watching our skills, innovation and the company as a whole continue to grow.
How does the company support your professional development?
I know that I always have support and that I am listened to. In my experience, this is very unique, as simple as it may sound. If I need something, all I have to do is mention it and a solution is found.
What is the best advice you would give to someone who wants to work in your field?
I found the opportunity to get to know many different agencies during my time as a freelancer extremely valuable. There is a right lid for every pot, even in a professional sense. You shouldn't be afraid to try out a few agencies, especially when you're young. This will make you all the more stable and you will know better in which area you want to stay or deepen your knowledge.
Team and collaboration
What does collaboration look like in your team?
Simple and relaxed. I can work very independently within my own spectrum. However, as soon as I need someone else's expertise, opinion or ability, it's there.
What do you appreciate most about your colleagues?
Very informal and therefore honest and relaxed. You don't have to be fancy or put on a permanent smile. You can be who you are, and I think that's reflected very positively here. Nobody has to pretend, being tired is totally okay, having a bad day is too. Everyone is a bit "weird" in their own way, and that's a good thing ;)
How does your team celebrate successes or milestones?
Successes are addressed and acknowledged in open discussions.
Corporate vision and values
Which company value do you identify with the most and why?
Clear communication. No one is helped by talking around the bush. It also means that you meet at eye level, which adds value to any collaboration and enables a deeper understanding.
How do you see the future of the company?
World domination! Absolutely ^^
I see the future as pretty bright. More and more daring personalities will join us and further enrich our portfolio with their skills. We will continue to develop dynamically and I look forward to seeing the results.
How does your work contribute to the overall vision of the company?
I think my previous experiences help with the analysis. I am also very honest in my thoughts. They don't necessarily have to be right, but they can help to uncover different perspectives, which can lead to new insights.
Personal insights
Is there a book, movie or quote that has influenced your work style or philosophy?
If anything, it was people. During my studies in particular, I was shown many perspectives that are still very valuable to me today and have a strong influence on my thoughts and actions.
What do you do to unwind and recharge from work?
indulge in people. I am a very sociable animal and thrive on spending time with friends and loved ones. Time together is very important to me.
What's something surprising that most people don't know about you?
I am often very contrary in the same things. I can be extremely calm in difficult situations and get super nervous over little things^^
Tips and advice
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry?
We are all human. You will always have the feeling that you are facing some super talented experts and comparing yourself. You don't have to. Everything is a process and your development is only just beginning. Your skills mature over time and in your professional life, not before. So be more relaxed and look forward to what's to come.
How do you stay current and informed in your field?
A colorful mishmash of social media, YouTube and people I interact with.
What tool or app has changed or improved your workday the most?
The Figma program! In my time before Wagemut , I mainly worked with the usual programs from Adobe. However, Figma was the first program to show me how incomprehensible, overly complicated and sometimes cumbersome Adobe's work processes are in its tools.
Final thoughts
What do you want for the future of the company?
Success, security and interesting new employees and customers.
Is there anyone in the company you particularly admire for their work or influence?
Well, all of them for a start, otherwise they wouldn't be here ^^ However, the perseverance of Patrick, Sebbo and Taki must be emphasized. Rarely have I seen someone with so much stamina and passion for the cause.
