Generational change: off to the nitty gritty
Foreword
The big dream of a family dynasty is on the minds of many who want to retire soon. However, the reality of youth often stands in stark contrast to this. So what to do when the next generation prefers to go their own way?
When the family option disappears, it's time for plan B. Instead of simply selling the business, it's time to Spruce it up! Spruce up the business and get it off to a profitable start. And this is exactly where we come in. Wagemut ensures that your brand is not only presented in the best light, but is ready for the next era.
Generational change: family dynasty or new paths?
Many entrepreneurs dream of passing on their life's work to the next generation. But young people often have other plans. Maybe the business isn't interesting enough? Or is self-employment simply not appealing? Either way, there are conflicts when old and young collide and this tension can be great. If the kids then refuse to take over the business, a solution is needed.
Time is running out - and the options are limited
The question "What now?" is always on the table. Anyone who has successfully managed a company for decades and is slowly approaching retirement basically has four options:
- Family dynasty - the (grand)kids take over the store.
- External CEO - someone from outside is running the business.
- Wind up - and simply close down the company.
- Pimp and sell - polish up, give it a new look and pass it on for a profit.
Did someone just call us? It wouldn't be the first time that companies have come to us because they have the fourth option on their radar: "Let's spruce up the brand so that the sale makes a fat profit." Sounds smart, doesn't it? But why all the effort? Why not just sell it "as it is"?
yeah!

Have we been able to arouse your interest?
Then just get in touch!
Why not just sell it like that?
Well, it's not that simple. Companies have often put off things like a new website for a long time and only made quick fixes. These short-term solutions often lead to a patchwork in the front end and even more so in the back end, which cannot be ignored. The problem? A chaotic appearance quickly makes potential buyers flinch. This is particularly evident in companies that are either just growing and do not yet have a clear structure or long-established companies whose last style check was in the early 2000s. Quick fixes are simply no longer enough here - and this is not only due to the previous budget, but often also to the fact that people are holding on to the old and don't want to let go.
And then there are the entrepreneurs who are finally looking forward to retirement and can hardly wait to get rid of the business. But even then, some find it difficult to say goodbye - especially if their own children don't want to take over. There are many reasons for this: generational conflicts, differing views or simply no interest in the business. The business doesn't interest them, and self-employment? Maybe not either. Whatever the reason... A solution must be found!
A new coat of paint: visually and emotionally
And that's exactly why a professional redesign is so important. A new look can trigger a spark in the children. Perhaps the fresh look will arouse interest and the desire to continue the parents' life's work. And even if not, it makes the company much more attractive to buyers. However, such a tactical redesign also has a disadvantage, as it is often even more difficult for retiring generations to give up the helm after a successful relaunch - because everything suddenly seems so modern and future-oriented. A new era that you want to be part of.
But letting go - both visually and emotionally - is a huge step. And it needs to be carefully considered. If the takeover is not successful, valuable knowledge, traditions and employee dynamics can be lost. So don't stamp it out - pass it on!
Wagemut: Design partner and couples therapist
During this sensitive phase, we not only support you as design professionals, but also as consultants, almost like couples therapists. Our aim is to support the change in leadership with fresh design and neutral advice. After all, the opinions of the older and younger generations often clash when it comes to decisions. We help to pass on the baton smoothly and without conflict. It is essential that the older generation can sit back and relax, while the younger generation is motivated to shape the future with a modern corporate look.
Our design approach easily increases the company value - it often doubles just like that! #The quick cash for the impatient followers. Because a good look sells. Period. A fresh coat of paint shows that the company is not only up and running, but is ready for the next step. Whether it's a takeover within the family or a sale to investors - a strategic redesign makes the company fit for the future.
The look makes the difference
However, the redesign is not just about pretty colors and chic typography. It's about structure, about a clear concept that signals: "An expansion can also start here tomorrow." This includes a modern website, a consistent design system and, above all, a clear brand message. A company that not only works, but looks like it's ready to take off - that makes all the difference. Nobody likes to buy chaos and a visually appealing brand shows that the company thinks and acts in a modern way.
From a dusty brand to a hot candidate for sale or a "smooth generation change" - that is our mission. This is how "old but great" easily becomes "new and wow!" And who knows? Maybe the new look will convince the next generation to carry on the family legacy after all.
