Dual study program with Wagemut at hand
Hello friends, I'm Celine, the one behind your (hopefully) much-loved blog articles - well, at least for a while now. Why am I introducing myself now and making myself the main character of this article? 1. just because I can ... so welcome to my ted talk and 2. because the topic of dual studies concerns me, the dual student at Wagemut ... duh!
I've been juggling lectures, projects and the reality of the professional world, which no one prepares you for at school, for a good 3 years now. Even though Wagemut has "only" been part of my studies since March 2023, I have gained a lot of experience that I can report on.
Dual study program - What's behind it?
For those who are wondering what a dual study program is: Imagine you have absolutely no private life because you have university two days a week and work three days a week. You also study for exams and prepare assignments. But since all that is not enough, because nowadays every young person has to be successful, you want to start a business on the side. Of course, a true entrepreneur doesn't live at home with mom, so you move into your own apartment - oh fuck, housework is more stressful than you thought and now you also have to find time for family and friends - zack burnout.
Well, at least unfortunately for many, but basically dual study means not only that, but, as romanticized as I like to put it, it means much more than that. Taking the excitement of lectures at university, chatting with fellow students, learning exciting content from lecturers and mixing it with the real pulse of the working world at your practice partner. A balancing act that allows me to put all the theory and suggestions directly into practice and build a solid foothold in the working world.
Why this way?
Why did I decide to go on this rollercoaster between "Oh no, I don't want any more" and "This is really fun"? After graduating from a vocational college for media and design, it was clear: I didn't just want to pore over books, I wanted to experience first-hand how my ideas work in the real world. Because even during the short training period I realized ... hm, something's not right here :( Somehow my methods at school are very far removed from my actual day-to-day work. It's not always creative technique first, then mood board, then creative technique, then sketches, then digitizing and working out. No, there's often no time for that, or there's no time to tinker around digitally. What's more, we don't always have the freedom to do what we like in real life, as is the case at school and university.
Long story short - the dual study program offers this perfect mix of campus and office, theory and practice, or theory and reality.
The combination of studies and job creates an incomparable exchange with fellow students and lecturers, which not only enables me to grow enormously as a future expert, but also as a person.
Wagemut as Partner in Crime
Why choose Wagemut as my practice partner? Easy - Here I get what I want from a creative partner. A company where everyone knows everyone else, with projects that are as varied as my erratic brain needs them to be. Here I'm not just seen as a student, but am allowed to work on projects and write blog articles on my own responsibility - just like now!
The support is not only professional, but also tangible on a human level. Questions are answered patiently, even if I ask them for the umpteenth time. They take into account the fact that I don't know everything yet - which is a given in this creative world anyway.
The guys bring a cheeky energy and each have so much to offer individually in terms of expertise, which the studies alone could never have made up for. I am very grateful to be part of this team!
My conclusion
If I had chosen my first practice partner more wisely and ended up at Wagemut straight away, it would definitely have been an all-round success. But on the whole, I think the dual study program is brilliant. Yes, it's stressful and demanding, but it's worth it. You get used to work processes during your studies and can put what you've learned directly into practice.
The practical relevance not only helps me to hone my skills, but also to approach my university tasks with a new perspective. So dual studies? 10/10 would recommend!
